Mr. Melkamu Ogo is a private law practitioner and part-time lecturer of laws at Addis Ababa University. He founded ‘Melkamu Ogo Law Office (MOLO) in 2016. His law office, MOLO works with individual clients of different citizens and national and international organizations across a broad range of industries/sectors and delivers full-fledged legal services on various issues including, but not limited to, media, business and investment, human rights, civic society organizations, criminal defense, and civil cases. In addition to his experiences in litigation and alternative dispute resolution, Mr. Melkamu offers in-house legal consultation services for clients engaged in several sectors of business.
Apart from his legal services, he has been executing social responsibilities in different ways to address marginalized and needy classes of society as an environmentalist and public interest litigant. To this end, Mr. Melkamu has co-founded various civic society organizations (CSOs) including Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) and “Defend the Environment - ቁም ለአካባቢ”
Currently, he is serving as the Board Chairman of “Defend the Environment - ቁም ለአካባቢ” that practices environmental public interest litigation in Ethiopia by representing environmental interests in various cases brought before the Federal and Regional Courts.
Melkamu’s voluntarily services is not limited in this organization, but extended to co-founding other CSOs and providing various supports to existing CSOs in a manner that help them to achieve their goals and addressing the interest of the Public. As a senior constitutional lawyer, Melkamu was a member of the Advisory Committee and was actively engaged in the drafting process of the Regional Constitution of South West Ethiopia.
Melkamu holds his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Haramaya University and his Advanced Diploma in Law from Queens College. He is a graduate of Addis Ababa University with Master of Laws (LL.M) in Public Law and Constitution. He also holds Bachelor of Theology (BTh) from the Holy Trinity Theological University.
